Suspending Work Here for Now

I now work for a new company following a take over. As a result I feel unable to post to this blog and therefore have no option but to cease publication of this blog, at least for the time being. Comments are also disabled. And finally, for those that use it, www.reskit.net is to be taken down at the weekend. I am sorry for any inconveinece caused.

What a long strange trip it's been.

[August 12 2006]

The reasons behind the temporary stop in work are now no longer relevant and I have resumed posting to the web. Also, www.reskit.net is up and running just fine.

Firefox 1.5.0.4 Fixes the Copy & Paste Bug at Last! at Ramblings of a Computer Guru

I have been using FireFox since its release last year. I loved the product as soon as I saw it. It is extensible, and this extensibilty has provided far more functinality than is available in IE. IE7 had done a nice job in catching up, but FireFox still has the edge. Plus I can get rid of the worst of the ads, making browsing a far more pleasant experience.

While I like Firefox, it's not without it's issues. It turns out that there's been a bug in the product for years around cut/paste not working randomly But now there is a fix, as described in Firefox 1.5.0.4 Fixes the Copy & Paste Bug at Last! at Ramblings of a Computer Guru. And here I thought this problem was local to me!

The solution is to upgrade to 1.5.0.4!

PDF out of Office

At a Reviewer's Workshop in London this week, MS folks were crowing about how they loved open file formats, and were committed to them. Well they're open to some formats. Despite saying how much they loved open formats, Open Document Format is not one of them. But by comparison, PDF is a really important feature. Then I woke up to a Bloomberg.com report saying MS is going to remove PDF from Office 12. Well, I guess that means either they now have time to go for OpenDoc, or they're going to have to remove a bunch of slides from their marketing deck, and change some messages ("we love open formats, but only the ones we control and which won't get us sued"). ,p>
